Misaé
With the fall of Calamity Gannon, the beasts that once plagued the lands and harried travelers were freed of his smothering influence and scattered from his order to grow into their own. A brief few days of chaos followed as Hylian, Rito, Gerudo, Goron, and even the Zora worked to reclaim their taken lands and drive these beasts into the darkness from whence they came. Still, other monstered scattered about their own, moving and settling into new lands and places long since abandoned by the people of Hyrule for good or ill. One such a beast included a particular beige Lynel who took up territory within the Gerudo desert, making a bit of a name for herself amongst the people residing there as “The Thunder of the Sands”. She made her home against the savage heat and blowing sands keeping herself cool with her powers and weapons that could bring both great fires and freezing gales at her whim. The great Lynel was feared by any and all who heard her thunderous roars that could be heard from miles away or the blistering crack of her mighty club that struck like lightning. She was avoided well enough as her acclaimed territory was yet a comfortably distant from the more settled lands.

One day a sudden freak sandstorm caught a pair of traveling Gerudo women by surprise as they were traveling back to town from a trip inland for fine linens and cloth. Driven far from their course by the harsh sands, they were surprised to find themselves stumbled into the fringes of uncharted territory, but worst yet, straight into the sights of a ravenous Molduga! Intent on preying upon these defenseless travelers, it slithered and swam through the sands towards them as they attempted to stand their ground. Unable to fight but not ready to die, they attempted to clear a path to their safety against the nearby rocks, abandoning their packs of food to distract so they could make a dash to them. The cries of the women in their fight and the roaring sands of the Molduga drew the attention of the great Lynel, the telltale thunder of her hooves charging through the sands towards the action. Just as the sandstorm began to clear and the Molduga breached the surface, the great Lynel leapt, swinging her club at its face, cracking its thick shell, knocking out several teeth and sending it flying as it squealed in pain, rolling to a stop in the sand.

The pair gazed in shock and bewilderment at the great beast who had inadvertently saved them from a most gruesome fate, the fabled Thunder of the Sands herself! A tremble ran through them at the thought of such an odd coincidence as well the stunning power so effortlessly displayed. Overjoyed in their survival, they began thanking the suddenly bewildered Lunel showering her with praise and compliments. Whether it was fear or genuine gratitude or both that spurred their words even they weren’t sure. The Lynel sheepishly gestured for a pause, blushing at their kind words and trotted over to the stunned Molduga before prying its vile maw wide open with hoof and hand. Taking a single deep breath, she let loose a searing blast of fire down its gullet, cooking it from the inside out before the fire erupted out the back end of it. It’s casual, almost indifferent treatment of the two Gerudo made it very apparent that the great Lynel saw no threat in the women watching in awe and slight disgust from this brutal fatality and before long a question was posed in the following silence. “Oh, great Thunder of the Sands, we humbly ask to know what name do you bare, so we may thank you properly”.

Surprised and unaccustomed to being talked to, she hesitated, pondering for a moment as she considered that none had ever asked her something like that before. She responded in a deep rumble like distant thunder, “This one calls herself... um… San, for the sand she treads.” Somewhat surprised at such a simple, almost blunt, answer they nearly laughed at the simplicity of it. They asked her then, why did she not have a name truly worthy of her power and splendor. Slightly embarrassed by their praise, she couldn’t offer them a good answered, looking to the side, blushing. They made an offer to the Lynel; as they had little of value to offer the Lynel, in gratitude for saving their lives, they instead offered her what cooked foods they had packed with them as well as offering her a name more fitting of her power and beauty; Misaé the Thunder of the sands!

The name held a certain appeal to the Lynel and as the offer of food was tempting she accepted, taking a huge bite of the carefully cooked and seasoned dish. Having never before eaten anything that wasn’t just the fresh raw meat of her hunts, the explosion of flavor from this delicious cooked meal made her unconsciously trot in place with sheer excitement! With this tenuous new friendship established, the now named Misaé asked if there were yet more fine treats like this to be had to which they told her, she need only follow them back to their town which wasn’t far now that the sandstorm had finally cleared.
